Score 10 out of 10 The Video Much like the last set, the transfers are sub-standard quality, especially for a collection anointed with the description "deluxe." No real re-mastering has been done, and the image quality deteriorates quickly on high end TV sets. I just wish that these were the folks responsible for producing these sets. There is no split in Thundercats fans who prefer one iteration over another we all just like Thundercats. When I talk about Thundercats with someone, I don't have to specify which version, or debate which one was better. There was no New Thundercats, Thundercats Armada, Thundercats 3-D or any such re-invention, and I for one am glad.

Excluding comic books and fan-fiction, Thundercats has never been re-imagined, remade, or turned into a bad live action movie a la Masters of the Universe.

(These factors will be accounted for in the set's overall score, but will not be deducted from the show itself.) Getting back to my Thundercats fandom, it's possible the show has held up for me due to the lack of Thundercats revivals. There's still a misleading "Special Features" menu on every disc which all except for disc 12 means only a succinct message to "see other discs for special features." The episodes still do not have chapter stops, even for the opening credits, and there's no episode guide either on each disc or printed on the packaging needless to say original air dates are omitted as well - possibly to bypass criticisms that some episodes are presented out of sequence. The video transfers are about the same (poor) quality, and the menu system is exactly the same layout, except with different images. Thundercats - Season One, Volume Two two was clearly produced at or around the same time as Volume One.

Hopefully the same will not prove to be the case for the no-doubt forthcoming Thundercats-Ho! made-for-video movie that introduced new Thundercats in Season Two but was subsequently re-edited as a five-part series for syndicated exhibition. Needless to say that works from a marketing perspective, but it stymies hardcore fans (like yours truly) who will buy the set in order to watch the shows in consecutive order.

The reason for this might be the fact that Warner Home Video is simultaneously releasing each disc individually, prompting casual fans to seek specific stories rather than full sets. Unfortunately, this miniseries is broken up between the various discs instead of a single disc containing the whole storyline.

Fans will most likely looking forward to the five-part series "Lion-O's Anointment," in which Lion-O proves himself worthy of leading the 'cats and wielding the Sword of Omens. This six-disc set completes season one of Thundercats, which consists of 65 episodes in total. Naturally, there's more going on than just that, but I don't want to bore those already aboard the Thundertank. Led by young lord Lion-O, they fight Mumm-ra and his evil minions, along with a host of other baddies who also call Third Earth home. Admittedly, this strikes me as unusual, especially since I recently parted ways with the Star Wars universe and began an early campaign of snarky rejoinders in response to the forthcoming Transformers live-action movie.įor those unfamiliar with the Thundercats, let's get down to basics: The Thundercats are a group of cat-human hybrids living on their newly adopted planet of Third Earth, after their home planet Thundera was destroyed. I only see Thundercats as I remember it - an awesome after-school action show with a well rounded group of feline/human super-heroes. It's like cartoon kryptonite to my hard-won cynicism: as much as I'm aware that I'm watching a 20 year-old toy commercial squeezed into a half hour of animated programming, I just can't see it for what it is. Nothing brings out the nerd in me quite like Thundercats.
